So things got awkward and Auggie moved his stuff back out of the Stark household into Milliways.

And he's been totally fine with it. Honestly. It's been kind of a relief not to have to keep such a close eye on himself the last three or four days. Milliways is kind of anxiety-inducing, but less anxiety inducing than living in a house with those two young men.

Of course, he misses the easy camaraderie. But it's not like this is the first time he valued safety over friendship.

He grins. "I am pleased to hear it."

He half-smiles. It's good to hear Sherlock grinning; it means there's probably no hard feelings over him leaving.

"Little weird not having Jarvis to wake me up, though."

"Well, I am afraid there is not much I can do about that."

Besides wake Auggie up himself. But that would come with its own attendant issues.

"Nah, it just means I need to suck it up and get an alarm clock from Bar."

[if_inconvenient]

"But an alarm clock is so much less friendly," he points out.

[seeagreatergood]

"You raise a good point. I'll have to find someone friendly to wake me up, then."

(It's out there before he really thinks about it.)

"I am innocent of suggestions."

He really isn't.

[seeagreatergood]

He raises his eyebrows.

"Did you just put yourself and innocent in the same sentence?"

[if_inconvenient]

"It would appear so."

[seeagreatergood]

He opens his mouth--

You're about as innocent as I am.

--closes it, shakes his head.

"Yes?"

"Nothing."

[if_inconvenient]

Fondly: "Liar."

"Yeah, but you knew that."

And have since the moment they met.

"Granted," he acknowledges.

Wry: "And you wonder why I expected you guys to be more paranoid."

[if_inconvenient]

"But I can tell when you are lying," he points out.

[seeagreatergood]

Half a smile. "Worse luck for me."

[if_inconvenient]

"Hardly. If I couldn't, I would be much more reluctant to trust you."

[seeagreatergood]

"That makes a twisted kind of sense, I guess."

[if_inconvenient]

"The kind of sense it makes is hardly twisted."

[seeagreatergood]

"In a 'you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest' kind of way?"

[if_inconvenient]

"Oh, no," he says quite seriously, "never that. You're not dishonest, Auggie. You lie for a reason, when you lie. That is another of the reasons why I trust you."

[seeagreatergood]

He raises his eyebrows.

"Do you deduce the reasons, too? --No, never mind." He waves a hand. "Let's not go down the road of me asking you what you've deduced about me again."

"As you like," he says, leaning back a little in his seat.
